Being this is Oscar week I thought I would talk a little about Beauty. Now let’s all get ready for are own red carpet event. This will be the first part of a four part set.
You see it everywhere in Hollywood today, particularly when there is a big or red carpet event. The Old Hollywood glamour look is also appearing in every photo shoot in all of the major magazines. Some stars like Heidi Klum use old Hollywood glamour on special nights like Oscar’s night, while others like Christina Aguilera seem to pull the old Hollywood glamour look effortlessly from day to day. How do you get this look? Think big hair, matte makeup, and bright bold lips.
Long hair is good for old Hollywood glamour, and if you have long hair you want big voluminous waves. An easy and fail-safe way to do this is by putting your hair in a bun overnight. Sleeping on your bun is going to set the hair and the waves so that when you take the bun out you have long, luscious, beautiful hair. In fact, the longer you keep the bun in your hair, the more hold you will have in the end. So if you want to go an extra night, do so. Make sure your hair is wet, or at least damp when you put it in a bun. You also want to do this on unwashed hair that is only slightly greasy. Dirty hair has the tendency to have a little more bend and will give your waves a longer hold.
If you aren’t sure how to do a bun, it is fairly easy and just takes a little practice. When you are putting it in the bun, try to get that bun as high on your head as you can. Pull your hair back and up onto the crown of your head as if you are putting it in a ponytail. Twist your hair from the crown until the tips of your hair buckles. Once it is twisted, you can then coil your hair into the bun on top of your head and secure with bobby pins. Try spritzing some hair spray on your bobby pins before you pin, as it will give them a little more traction. When you are ready to take your bun out, do so and brush out your bun to get soft, voluminous waves. You can pin back one or two sides to get the old Hollywood glamour hair.
For the face you want to go very pale on your face, and bold on the lips. Use a foundation with matte finish and in a light or ivory shade. Brush with a matte translucent powder. For your lips, line with a fine liner in a bright red shade. Finish the look with the bright lipstick that you have chosen. To set your lips, brush just a smidge of translucent over your lips. This will not only set your lips so that the color lasts longer, but it will also give those Hollywood lips a flat matte finish.
For your eyes, think dark eyeliner in a liquid form. Liquid eyeliner creates dramatic eyes in a heartbeat and you will not need any color to finish the look, and you won’t want to achieve the old Hollywood glamour. A couple of coats of volumizing mascara and you are finished!
Someday I’ll see you on the Red carpet
