Katherine Evelyn Anita “Katie” Cassidy-Benedon (born on November 25, 1986) is an American actress and singer, mostly known for her appearances in Supernatural, Harper’s Island, Melrose Place, Black Christmas or Taken.
Cassidy was born in Los Angeles, California as the daughter of pop star David Cassidy and former fashion model Sherry Benedon, growing up in Calabasas, California.
In her childhood, she took gymnastics, studied piano and guitar, taking dancing and acting lessons and in the end she became cheerleader for the California Flyers. Cassidy studied at the Calabasas High School, graduating in 2005 after she cheered for them as a freshman.
Show business gained Cassidy’s attention while she was in elementary school, taking part in community theatre and doing some modeling, including for Abercrombie and Fitch in 2004. She also sang in VH1’s TV special Bubblegum Babylon in 2002. Sherry, her mother, prevented her from professional acting till Cassidy graduated from high school. Following graduation, she moved to Los Angeles appearing in several TV series, such as 7th Heaven and Sex, Love & Secrets, having a small role in the music video of Eminem, Just Lose It in 2004.
In 2006 she appeared in the horror movie, When a Stranger Calls, followed by a second horror movie, Black Christmas, playing the role of a sorority girl. Cassidy was working for the 2007 remake of the Revenge of the Nerds, but productions were stopped and eventually the project was cancelled. In 2008 she had a role in Taken, playing with Liam Neeson and Maggie Grace. She got the leading role in the movie remake of the popular TV series, Dallas, as Lucy Ewing, which is set to be released in 2012. Cassidy had a one year contract on the popular drama of The CW’s “Supernatural” and appearing in the CBS series, Harper’s Island.
She also appeared on the new Melrose Place, on The CW. Most recently, Cassidy got the role of Kris in the forthcoming A Nightmare on Elm Street that is set to be released on April 30, 2010.
In August 2007, Cassidy was arrested for juvenile drinking in Tucson, being a passenger in a car that was stopped by the police for some traffic violation. Her blood alcohol level was twice the Arizona legal limit, and lied the police about her age, stating that she was 21 years old.
Cassidy has four tattoos on her body, on her hip, her foot, her ankle and in the middle of her back. According to her, she enjoys reading, taking acting classes and watching movies with her friends in her spare time.
