Chad Michael Murray (born on August 24, 1981) is an American actor, a former model and spokesperson. He rose to fame following the lead role in the television series One Tree Hill. He is also famous for starring in the successful films, Freaky Friday, A Cinderella Story or House of Wax. Presently, Murray detains the most Teen Choice Award nominations and appeared on the cover of several magazines: Rolling Stone, People, Vanity Fair or Entertainment Weekly.
Murray was born in Clarence, Florida as the son of air traffic controller, Rex Murray. In 1999, Murray went to Hollywood supporting himself working as a model for various clients, such as Skechers, Tommy Hilfiger and Gucci.
Murray guest starred in numerous television roles, such as in one episode of Diagnosis Murder and in one episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. In 1999, Murray got the role of Tristin Dugray on Gilmore Girls, being one of the main characters of the first season of the series. Following his cast in One Tree Hill, his role became a recurring one. Later on he also appeared in TV films, such as Aftermath or Murphy’s Dozen. Murray played the role of Charlie Todd in the television series Dawson’s Creek later that year.
Murray appeared in 2003 in the Disney feature film, Freaky Friday, a major commercial success gaining more than $110 millions only in the United States. He also performed in the television movie, The Lone Ranger, as Luke Hartman.
In the same year, Murray was cast in the main role of Lucas Scott in the television series One Tree Hill. The series became The WB’s top rated TV program as it was first broadcasted in 2003. For his performance in the series Murray won several awards, such as eleven Teen Choice Awards. As he became famous and caught the attention of the media, he became the spokesperson for several companies, such as MasterCard, K-Mart, Cingular wireless or Chevy Cobalt.
After his role in One Tree Hill, he appeared on the cover of several magazines – Rolling Stones or People – and was one of “TV’s Sexiest Guys” in People magazine.
Murray was the star in 2004 of the comedy, A Cinderella Story. Although it received poor reviews, it turned out to be a modest commercial success, and was responsible for numerous 2006 Teen Choice Awards wins in several categories. In the same year, People magazine considered him one of the “Sexiest Men Alive” and also appeared on the cover of the magazine.
A year later, in 2005, Murray appeared in House of Wax, a commercial success despite the negative reviews. His performance earned Murray several 2006 Teen Choice Awards wins, including “Choice Movie Actor: Action/Adventure/Thriller“.
In 2008, Murray won the Teen Choice Award for “Best TV Actor in a Drama” being also nominated for numerous other awards.
Murray dated his co-star in One Tree Hill, Sophia Bush for two years and married her in April 2005. Their marriage lasted only five months, as Bush filed for divorce. After his marriage has ended, Murray started dating Kenzie Dalton, the second best in the 2005 Miss North Caroline Teen USA pageant, becoming engaged later on.
