Lea Thompson Biography, Filmography, PicturesLea Katherine Thompson (born May 31, 1961) is an American actress and director being famous for her 1990s NBC comedy Caroline in the city and for interpreting Marty McFly’s mother in the Back to the Future trilogy.

She was born on Rochester, Minnesota, studying ballet as a girl and practicing 3-4 hours every day. Thomson won scholarships to various ballet schools, the American Ballet Theatre, the San Francisco Ballet and the Pennsylvania Ballet, dancing in more than 45 ballets with the American Ballet Theatre. She gave up dancing and followed an acting career, moving to New York when she was 20 performing is several Burger King advertisements in the 1980s.

Thompson’s first important roles were in Jaws 3-D and All the Right Moves in 1983, followed by Red Dawn (1984) and The Wild Life (1984). She is mostly famous for the role of Lorraine Baines McFly in the Back to the Future trilogy.

In 1986 she appeared in SpaceCamp and Howard the Duck. Later on, in 1989 Thompson had a major role in the movie Nightbreaker, being nominated for a CableACE Award. She also appeared in the early 1990s, in Dennis the Menace (1993), The Beverly Hilbillies (1994), The Little Rascals (1994) as well as in numerous TV movies.

In 1996, Thompson won a People’s Choice Award as “Favorite Female Performer in a New TV Series.

Thomson appeared in a TV series, For The People, followed by a TV movie, Stealing Christmas (2003). In 2005, Thompson started a TV series for the Hallmark Channel playing “Jane Doe” and directed two films of the Jane Doe series.

Thompson participated as a singer on Celebrity Duets being the second competitor eliminated in 2006 and was the guest star of the Head Case show in January 2008. For her recent performance in the TV movie, The Christmas Clause, she got positive reviews and ratings. Thompson is playing in the Splinterheads and Prettyface new films, and in the movie I was a 7th Grade Dragon Slayer.

Thomson has been married to film director Howard Deutch since 1989, after being engaged to Dennis Quaid, her co-star in the Jaws 3-D. Thomson has two daughters with Deutch, with whom she performed for at the 16th annual Alzheimer’s Association “A Night at Sardi’s” in March 2008. Thompson’s career had a break while she raised her daughters, but she declared that this break helped her a lot in interpreting soccer mom Kathy Davis/Jane Doe. Thompson’s brother, Andrew had a his share of success with the Colorado Ballet, while her sister, Colleen is a writer.
