Sir Roger Moore was thanked by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animal (PETA) in the United Kingdom for campaign against the French delicacy foie gras.
The star of the early James Bond movies, who is a devoted animal lover, has been continuously trying to convince the British department store Selfridges to end the sell of the product, made from ducks and geese livers.
Moore joined forces with PETA for a video campaign to determine shoppers not to buy the French delicacy and even made an offer to the company to buy the remaining stock of the store for the food to disappear from the store’s shelves.
Moore’s efforts were highly appreciated by PETA officials, naming him their 2009 Person of the Year. Moore is also happy the prize, saying “I am deeply touched and thrilled to be awarded the PETA UK Person of the Year. When I first saw their video footage on foie gras production three years ago, I felt compelled to do something to help put a stop to this cruel delicacy.”
