Sharon Stone Biography, Filmography, PicturesSharon Yvonne Stone (born on March 10, 1958) is an American actress, film producer and former fashion model, achieving fame with her performance in the thriller Basic Instinct. Stone has one Academy Award nomination for Best Actress and winner of a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for her performance in Casino.

Stone was born in Meadville, Pennsylvania and graduated in 1975 from Saegertown High School, briefly attending Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. While a teenager, she worked at a fast food restaurant.

In 1977, Stone left Meadville and moved to New Jersey to pursue a fashion model career. She was signed by Ford Modeling Agency in New York and spent a couple of years modeling and appearing in various TV commercials for Burger King, Clairol and Maybelline.

Living in Europe she decided to quit modeling and become an actress. She was cast a small role in Stardust Memories (1980) and in the horror movie Deadly Blessing (1981). Stone next appeared in Irreconcilable Differences (1984), Action Jackson (1988) King Solomon’s Mines (1985) and Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold (1987). Her performance in Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold earned Stone a nomination for Razzie Award for Worst Actress.

Sharon Stone Biography, Filmography, PicturesStone’s career was bumped with her appearance in Total Recall (1990). In 1999, Playboy rated her as one of the 25 sexiest stars of the century. Stone became a star with the role of Catherine Tramell in Basic Instinct (1992). Actually the part was offered to 13 other actresses before being offered to Stone and several actresses such as Michelle Pfeiffer, Meg Ryan, Melanie Griffith or Julia Roberts declined the offer, mostly because of the required nudity scene. After the film, Stone was listed by People magazine as one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world.

In November 1995, Stone got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and in the same year, Empire selected her as one of the 100 sexiest stars in film history. In 1995, her performance in Casino earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Dramatic Motion Picture and an Academy Award nomination as Best Actress.

In 2001, Stone was diagnosed with vertebral artery dissection and was treated with an endovascular coil embolization.

In 2003, Stone appeared in three episodes of The Practice, performance that earned her an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series.

After a long delay, Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction was released on March 31, 2006. It was delayed because of the nudity in the movie, as Stone wanted more while filmmakers wanted less. The movie turned out to be a box office failure. In February 2007, Stone appeared in her latest film, When a Man Falls in the Forest.

In December 2006 she was the co-host of the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo, Norway with Anjelica Huston, concert held in honor of the Nobel Peace Prize winners Muhammad Yunus and Grameen Bank.

In April, 2004, Stone was awarded the National Center for Lesbian Rights Spirit Award for her support with organizations serving the lesbian, gay and AIDS community.

Stone recently converted to Tibetan Buddhism after actor Richard Gere introduced her to the Dalai Lama. Stone was briefly married to George Englund Jr. leaving him for Michael Greenburg. She married Greenburg in 1984 and separated three years after. In 1998, Stone Married Phil Bronstein, divorcing in 2004. They have an adopted son; Stone adopted her second son in 2005 and her third son in 2006.
In an interview in 2005, Stone admitted her interest in bisexuality and that she dated girls in the past.

Stone resides in Beverly Hills, California and has a ranch in New Zealand. She also has diabetes and loves raspberries.
