Jenna Elfman (born on September 30, 1971) is an American TV and film actress.
She was born Jennifer Mary Butala in Los Angeles, California and attended the Los angeles County High School for the Arts graduating in 1989. Prior to her TV career, she studied with acting coach Milton Katselas and Richard Lawson at the Beverly Hills Playhouse.
Elfman started her career as a professional dancer, appearing in Depeche Mode’s promotional video for their 1990s song ‘Halo’ and also was on tour as a dancer with the group ZZ Top. Elfman turned to acting in the beginning of the 1990s and appeared in 1993 in music video “Black Lodge’ of Anthrax. In 1995, she also appeared in the music video ‘Somebody’s Crying’ of Chris Isaak.
Before landing her first series jobs, Elfman guest-starred in series Roseanne, NYPD Blue, The Monroes, Murder One and in the sitcom Almost Perfect. In 1996 she got a regular role in the sitcom vehicle Townies. The role turned out to be a turning point in Elfman’s career, as she signed her own sitcom deal before the last episode of Townies was broadcast. Her role in the sitcom Dharma & Greg which ran from 1997 to 2002, earned Elfman a Golden Globe Award and two Emmy Award nominations.
In 1999, she co-hosted the Emmy Awards presentation along with David Hyde Pierce. Some of her TV appearances include guest starring in two episodes of Two and a Half Men in 2004 and in one episode of Brothers and Sisters in 2007. Most recently she filmed a comedy pilot, Accidentally on Purpose and CBS began broadcasting the show in the 2009-2010 season.
