Courtney Cox Biography, Filmography, Pictures Courteney Bass Cox (born on June 15, 1964), is an American actress, mostly known for her role as Monica Geller on the sitcom, Friends. At present she is starring in Cougar Town.

Cox was born in Birmingham, Alabama and has two older sisters and an older brother. After her parents divorce, she became a rebellious teen. She graduated from Mountain Brook High School in Mountain Brook, Alabama. Cox took architecture classes at Mount Vernon College in Washington D.C. for a year, but did not complete it, as she has chosen to follow modeling and acting career.

She first gained fame in 1984, appearing in the music video ‘Dancing in the Dark’ of Bruce Springsteen. In her early career, Cox appeared in Masters of the Universe (1987) and Cocoon: The Return (1988), as well as in the short-lived TV series Misfits of Science (1985) and in the TV series Family Lies in a recurring role from 1987 to 1989. In 1994, before her debut in the sitcom, Friends, she starred in the film Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and guest-starred in the episode ‘The Wife’ on Seinfeld.

Later in 1994, she was cast as the character Monica Geller in the sitcom ‘Friends’ after she originally auditioned for the role of Rachel Green. It is her most famous role, lasting until 2004 for 10 seasons. She became – along with her female co-stars – the highest paid TV actress of all time, earning $1 million per episode for the 10th season of ‘Friends’ according to the Guinness World Book of Records (2005).

Following her role in ‘Friends’, she was offered a starring role as Susan Mayer on Desperate Housewives, but she was not available as she was pregnant. She starred in the film November (2005) with a limited theatrical release and she also lent her voice for the animated film Barnyard.

In 2008 she signed to star in three episodes of the TV series ‘Scrubs’. Cox is also starring in the comedy series ‘Cougar Town along with Busy Philipps and Christina Miller.

While playing in ‘Friends’, she appeared in the Hollywood films Scream (1996), Scream 2 (1997) and Scream 3 (2000). She met husband, David Arquette during the filming of the first Scream Film. They will both appear in the 2010’s Scream 4.

In 2003, Cox and Arquette produced one season of the reality TV series Mix It Up, but it had low ratings and was canceled.

Cox had a six year relationship with actor Michael Keaton from 1989 to 1995 and also dated singer Adam Duritz. She married David Arquette in June 1999 and in June 2004 she gave birth to their daughter, Coco Riley Arquette.

Cox was voted “9th sexiest woman in the world” by FHM readers twice, in 1997 and 1998 and the 18th “Sexiest Woman in the World” by Stuff magazine (2002). She was ranked 41 on Forbes Celebrity 100 list in 2003.
