Mandel Bruce “Mandy” Patinkin (born on November 30, 1952) is an American actor and tenor vocalist and is famous from his roles in the TV series such as Chicago Hope, Dead Like Me or the first two seasons of Criminal Minds.
Patinkin was born in Chicago, Illinois, growing up in a middle class Jewish family, being raised in Conservative Judaism. He attended South Shore High School, Kenwood Academy, the University of Kansas as well as Juilliard School of Drama, where he was a classmate of Kelsey Grammer.
Following some television commercials and radio appearances, the first success came along playing the part of Che in Evita on Broadway in 1979, which earned him the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical of that year. After Broadway Patinkin performed some roles in movies but returned to Broadway in 1984 to play in the musical Sunday in the Park with George, performance that earned him a Tony Award nomination in the Best Actor (Musical) category. Patinkin continued to appear in movies such as The Princess Bride (1987), Dick Tracy or Alien Nation and on Broadway in the musical The Secret Gardens for 706 performances. He also released two solo albums, name “Mandy Patinkin” and “Dress Casual”.
