Sarah Jessica Parker Biography, Filmography, Pictures Sarah Jessica Parker (born on March 25, 1965) is an American actress and producer. She is famous for her role as Carrie Bradshaw on the TV series, Sex and the City, performance that earned her four Golden Globe Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards and two Emmy Awards.

Parker was born in Nelsonville, Ohio, being one of eight children. She studied singing and ballet. She move with her family to Cincinnati, Ohio and then to Dobbs Ferry, New York, close to New York City, where she started her career as a child actress. She attended the School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati, the School of American Ballet, Dwight Morrow High School as well as the Professional Children’s School, Hollywood High School in Los Angeles, California.

Parker was cast in 1982, as the co-lead of the sitcom Square Pegs, show that lasted only one season but her performance was well received. In the following three years, Parker appeared in four films.

In 1991 she appeared in the comedy L.A. Story, her performance being positively reviewed. A year later, she got a major starring role in the film Honeymoon in Vegas, co-starring Nicholas Cage. Parker appeared in several films, including Hocus Pocus (1993), Striking Distance (1993), Miami Rhapsody (1995) or the comedy Till There Was You (1997).

Darren Star, the creator of the series Sex and the City, was determined to get Parker playing in the series. Parker accepted and the show turned out to be a huge success, and making Parker a star and an icon. Starting with the third season, Parker became a producer for the series and in 2004 she won an Emmy Award for her lead role.

The series came to an end in 2004 and a film version of the Sex and the City was launched on May 30, 2008. Parker is also an appreciated stage actor, appearing in several Broadway shows. In December 2005 she appeared in the theatrical film, The Family Stone, role that earned her a Golden Globe nomination in the Best Actress – Comedy category.

Parker’s next project as a producer was the independent film, Spinning Into Butter.

In July, US cable network Bravo made public that will broadcast a reality show made by Parker, called American Artists. She is currently also producing a comedy series called Washontonienne. The pilot of the series will be aired in 2009. Parker is involved in the American version of the UK TV series Who Do You Think You Are?

Besides being an actor and producer, Parker is also a fashion icon. She was the host of the MTV Movie Awards in 2000, appearing in more than 15 different costumes during the show.

In August 2003, Parker signed a deal with Garnier to promote their Nutrisse hair products and in 2004 she was contracted by Gap, although her contract with the clothing giant was terminated in spring 2005.

Parker’s second fragrance ‘Covet’ was released in July 2007, while in February 2009 a series of three new fragrances were launched: ‘Dawn’, ‘Endless’ and ‘Twilight’.

Parker had a relationship with actor Robert Downey, Jr. from 1984 until 1991. In May 1997, she married actor Matthew Broderick. They both think of themselves as “culturally Jewish”. In October 2002, their son, James Wilkie Broderick was born.

As from 2009, the Parker-Broderick family lives in New York City and spends a lot of time in County Donegal, Ireland.

Parker is UNICEF’s Representative for the Performing Arts and in 2006 she went to Liberia as a UNICEF celebrity ambassador, currently being a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for the United States.

In 2009, Parker and Broderick’s surrogate delivered their two daughters; they were born in Martins Ferry, Ohio.
