Melissa Joan Hart Biography, Filmography, PicturesMelissa Joan Hart (born on April 18, 1976) is an American actress, writer, TV director and producer, singer and businesswoman. She is probably best known for her starring roles in the TV series Clarissa Explains It All and Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

She was born in Smithtown, New York and grew up in Sayville, New York, having six sisters and one brother. They all acted, with the exception of her half-sister, Mackenzie Hart who is not in show business.

Hart started her career when she was three with a television commercial. She regularly appeared in various commercials and by the age of five she already made 25 of them. She had a small part in the miniseries Kane & Abel in 1985, guest starred in an episode of The Equalizer a year later and a starring role in the TV movie Christmas Show along with Katherine Helmond in the same year.

In 1989, Hart became an understudy to three of the young girls in the Broadway production of The Crucible that helped her to gain the title role in the TV show Clarissa Explains It All. The show became a big hit and earned Hart four consecutive Young Artist Awards nominations, winning three of them. As Clarissa, Hart recorded two albums, This is What ‘Na Na’ Means and a recording of Peter and the Wolf. While the first album was a success, the second won earned her a Parent’s Choice award.

Hart returned to acting with the title role for the 1996 television movie Sabrina the Teenage Witch, followed by a TV series of the same name lasting for seven seasons. In the same time she guest starred on the series Touched by an Angel and also appeared in several TV movies. In 1998, Hart got a small role in the movie Can’t Hardly Wait, followed by the filming of Next to You, playing alongside Adrian Grenier. She appeared in lingerie in a set of photographs and associated article in the Maxim magazine’s October 1999 issue. She appeared in the film Rent Control, made in 2002 and broad-casted in 2005.

In 1999, Hart debuted as a director in an episode of Disney’s Channel’s So Weird and later on in 2001, she directed an episode of Nickelodeon’s Taina. In the years 2001 – 2002 Hart directed six episodes of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, while in 2005 she directed her first movie, a short called Mute. Hart also guest starred on an episode of Law & Order: SVU titled “Impulsive” aired on October 9, 2007. Also in 2007, she directed the video “Anger Cage” for her husband’s band Course of Nature and appeared in the movie Holiday in Handcuffs, premiered on December 9, 2007. Hart also appeared in an ABC movie My Fake Fiance in 2009.

In 2009, Hart opened a candy shop, SweetHarts in Sherman Oaks, California, fulfilling her childhood dreams of having a candy shop.

In July 2003, Hart married musician Mark Wilkerson and the ceremony preparations were documented in a television miniseries, Tying the Knot. They have two sons born in Los Angeles, California. Hart and Wilkerson were both features in the April 7, 2008 issue of People magazine.
