Kevin Spacey Biography, Filmography, PicturesKevin Spacey (born on July 26, 1959) is an American actor, director, screenwriter and producer. Spacey began his acting career as a stage actor through the 1980s, prior of being cast in film and television. He won his first Oscar for The Usual Suspects (1995) as Best Supporting Actor, followed by another Academy Award as Best Actor in American Beauty (1999). His performances also earned him Emmy and Golden Globe nominations and since 2003 he is artistic director of the Old Vic theatre in London.

Spacey was born in South Orange, New Jersey, having a sister, Julie, and a brother, Randy. He attended Northridge Military Academy – but from which he was expelled, Canoga Park High School and Chatsworth High School in Chatsworth, California, graduating as valedictorian of his class. Spacey was a stand-up comedian for several years, and then attended the Juilliard School in New York City, studying drama between 1979 and 1981. Throughout this period, he performed stand-up comedy in bowling alley talent contests.

Spacey’s first professional appearance on stage was in Henry VI, part 1, in 1981 at a New York Shakespeare Festival. A year later, he debuted on Broadway in Henrik Ibsen’s Ghosts. Spacey next appeared in Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull and in 1986 performed Sleuth in a dinner theater in New Jersey.

Spacey became famous as a stage actor in 1986 when he appeared next to Jack Lemmon, Peter Gallagher and Bethel Leslie in Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey into Night. His first important television appearance was in the second season premiere of Crime Story. Spacey’s performance as “Uncle Louie” in Neil Simon’s Broadway success Lost in Yonkers earned him in 1991 a Tony Award.

His earlier appearances include L.A.Law, the TV film The Murder of Mary Phagan (1988) or the comedy See No Evil, Hear No Evil (1989). Spacey started to be cast in bigger roles, in films such as the dark comedy The Ref (1994), the dark satire Swimming with Sharks, or the film Glengarry Glen Ross (1992), being positively reviewed by critics.

Spacey got his A-list status with the role of Verbal Kint in The Usual Suspects, which also earned him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

In 1995 he starred in the thriller movie Seven alongside Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, playing the role of the serial killer, John Doe.

Spacey was acclaimed for his role in American Beauty (1999), winning an Academy Award for Best Actor and getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In the same year, he won another Tony nomination for his work in the Broadway production of The Iceman Cometh.
