Forest Whitaker, the Oscar-winning actor is said to be in negotiations for an important TV deal to lead the future Criminal Minds spin-off.
Bosses at America’s CBS network are looking to expand the successful cop drama into a franchise with a new series set to air later this year.
According to EW.com, the star of The Last King of Scotland has been selected to head up the entirely new cast. It also reports Whitaker will be introduced to spectators in a Criminal Minds episode this spring, preparing the scene for the spin-off.
Whitaker’s recent main TV role was also in a police show, starring in two series of The Shield between 2006 and 2007.

Nicolas Cage has sold his mansion in Las Vegas losing almost $3.5 million in comparison to its purchase price in 2006, according to TMZ.
The mansion that Cage bought with $8.5 million was in foreclosure since November last year, was sold for $4.95 million, according to broker Kenneth Lowman.
Cage is caught up in a financial battle and his situation is considered to be ‘catastrophic’ TMZ said.
The actor is surrounded by lawsuits and liens and he is selling his various properties in Los Angeles and United Kingdom. He owes the IRS around $13 million in back taxes.
