Actor Andrew Koenig – missing since February 14 – took his own life, according to his father, following the discovery of his son’s body in a park in Vancouver, British Columbia on Thursday.

Koenig’s body was found dead by some friends of his, in their own search of Stanley Park, where Andrew Koenig preferred to walk, his father stated.

His parents reported him missing after failing to board a flight last week to Los Angeles from Vancouver. The Koenigs declared they got a “despondent tone” letter from their son last week.

Walter Koenig was with the friends searching Stanley Park Thursday morning and was not far away when his son was found.

Koenig, 41, starred in 25 episodes of “Growing Pains” between 1985 and 1989, as Richard “Boner” Stabone as well as in episodes of various other TV shows. He also appeared in roles in movies such as “InAlienable”, “NonSeNse”, “Batman: Dead End”, “The Theory of Everything” and on television in “G.I. Joe”, “Star Trek: Dep Space Nine”, “21 Jump Street”, “My Two Dads”, “My Sister Sam” or “Adam – 12”.

Koenig was also an activist, being arrested in 2008 at the Rose Bowl while demonstrating against U.S. participation in the 2008 Summer Olympics in China.
