Randy Quaid & Wife's Criminal Case Ends in Plea Deal

The weird legal odyssey of Randy and Evi Quaid came to an end Wednesday, as a judge dropped charges against Randy, and her wife pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor in their case of not paying a hotel bill.

According to the plea deal, they both escaped extra jail time, as they already serve some orders for missing court hearings, but Evi has to perform 240 hours of community service in a one year period.

Randy said he learned something from the case, “you pay your bills when you leave, and I suppose that’s something we can work on in the future.”

He also told PEOPLE he considers he was treated more severely by authorities because he is a celebrity. He said, “Usually, with celebrities, they tend to try to make an example of you. But I’ll roll with that. I don’t hold grudges.”

Randy and Evi were charged of not paying an over $10,000 hotel bill an at exclusive Santa Barbara resort. They said the charges resulted from a misunderstanding, as they believed they could pay the bills later on by mail.

Evi is planning to do her community service by working with the homeless in LA, saying, “We want to create a homeless theater for men in Los Angeles. The creative process is something that homeless men are cut out for, and they are a profound resource.”
