Former child television star Gary Coleman (February 8, 1968 – May 28, 2010) died after doctors took him off life support on Friday. He was in coma after suffering an intracranial hemorrhage Wednesday at his home. He was 42.
His health was continually affected by his kidney disease he suffered as a child and hat two kidney transplants and also had ongoing dialysis.
Coleman is most famous for his childhood role on Diff’rent Strokes, which aired between 1978 and 1986.
He had several financial and legal problems besides to continuing ill health stemming from the kidney disease. As an adult, he was only 4 feet 8 inches tall.
Coleman had several guest star appearances and other minor roles over the years.
He also ran for the California 2003 recall election and came in 8th place.
In 1989, at 21, his mother filed a court asking to take control over Coleman’s $6 million fortune, claiming he was not capable of managing his affairs.
He was born on February 8, 1968, in Zion, Illinois, near Chicago and at the age of 2 he was diagnosed with kidney disease, undergoing his first kidney transplant at 5. He met Shannon Price on the set of the 2006 comedy Church Ball and married in 2007.
