James Earl Jones (born on January 17, 1931) is an American stage and screen actor, known as the voice of Darth Vader in the Star Wars franchise and also for the CNN tagline.
He was born in Arkabutla, Mississippi, graduated from Brethren High School, in Brethren, MI, and attended the University of Michigan. He signed up with the Reserve Officers Training Corps where he enjoyed the structures of the military environment. In the summer of 1953, he received his second lieutenant’s commission and went to Fort Benning to attend Basic Infantry Officers School. He and his unit were sent to Colorado and the regiment was established as a training unit. In the end, he earned the rank of First Lieutenant.
He debuted on film in 1964, with a role in Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. His first major role came in the film adaptation of the Broadway play The Great White Hope, role for which he was nominated Best Actor at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
