Pop star Kylie Minogue could be even sweeter as an Australian politician plans to name a new mango in her honor.
Scientist have came up three new variety of mango in the Northern Territory and the primary industry minister of the region Kopn Vatskalis wants to name one of the mangos for the “Neighbours” star who is a famous singer worldwide.
In a statement on Wednesday, Vatskalis said, “I think Kylie should be so lucky to have this mango variety named after her.”
“She is the princess of pop and just like royalty it would be fitting to have a Territory icon named after her.”
He also said he is going to send her a batch of the mangos, for the singer to be among the first people to taste the new mango.
The new variety of mango was developed after 16 years of research – included in Australia’s National Mango Breeding Program – have a higher blush color to be more appealing to customers.
Additionally, the new mango is more productive and can be harvested for longer than the existing varities.
Vatskalis wants the mango to be named after Minogue ahead of its scheduled release for sale in late 2012.v
