Valerie Anne Bertinelli (born on April 23, 1960) is an American actress, mostly known as Barbara Cooper Royer on the TV series One Day at a Time, and as Gloria on the TV series Touched by an Angel.
She was born in Wilmington, Delaware. Her family lived in Claymont, Delaware and Clarkston, Michigan, moving later to Oklahoma City and then to the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles, California. She studied acting at the Tami Lynn School of Artists and attended Granada Hills High School.
After her appearance in an episode of Apple’s Way, she was asked by producer Norman Lear to audition for the role of Barbara Cooper in a sitcom One Day at a Time. The sitcom debuted in 1975 and she appeared in 207 of the 209 episodes.
After the show, she continued her acting career, starring in numerous television movies and mini-series, as well as in the 1990s sitcoms, Sydney, and Café Americain. In 2001, she joined Roma Downey and Della Reese in the cast of Touched By An Angel (for the last two seasons of the show).
