Ricky Jay Biography, Filmography, PicturesRichard Jay Potash (born in 1948), mainly known by the stage name Ricky Jay, is an American stage magician, writer and actor. He is among the world’s best sleight-of-hand artists, widely known for his card throwing and card tricks, stage patter and memory feats.

He was born in Brooklyn, New York and his grandfather was an amateur magician who introduced him to the world of magicians.

David Mamet directed a minimum of three of his one-man shows, such as Ricky Jay and His 52 Assistants, A Rogue’s Gallery, and On the Stem. He has also cast him in several of his films. Jay appeared in films directed by other directors, including Boogie Nights, The Prestige, and Magnolia.

He was writer and guest star for HBO’s western drama Deadwood, for its first season in 2004. He played the role of card sharp Eddie Sawyer, a dealer in a casino. He was cast as a henchman to villain Elliott Carver in the Bond film, Tomorrow Never Dies.

He was listed in the Guinness Book of Records for the performance of throwing a playing card 190 feet at 90 miles/hours.

He founded a consulting company, Deceptive Practices and frequently has clients from the stage, film and television industries. He has also worked with several museums and libraries on their collection.
