Jane Russell (June 21, 1921 – February 28, 2011) died yesterday of respiratory illness at her home in Santa Maria, California. She was 89.
Jane Russell, was one of Hollywood’s most celebrated sex symbols. best know for her role in “The Outlaw,” a Howard Hughes production.
She went on to appear in 18 more films in the 1940s and 1950s. Among them are “Road to Bali,” “Son of Paleface,” “The Paleface,” and “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,” a musical with Marilyn Monroe.
In the 1970s when Jane was a spokesperson for Playtex Cross Your Heart Bra “for us full-figured gals.”
At 19, Russell had an abortion that resulted in her inability to conceive children.
Married three times, Russell went through one divorce and was widowed twice.
Just two years ago, Glamour U.K. named Russell one of the 40 Most Iconic Movie Goddesses of All Time.
