Elizabeth Maresal Mitchell (born on February 10, 1974), known as Elizabeth Banks, is an American actress, who debuted in the film Surrender Dorothy. She is known for her roles in the films Definitely, Maybe; Zack and Miri Make a Porno; Role Models; W.; Wet Hot American Summer; The Uninvited and also the Spider-Man franchise.
She was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and in 1992 she graduated from Pittsfield High School and in 1996 with magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania. She also attended the American Conservatory Theater.
She decided to change her name not to be confused with actress Elizabeth Mitchell. She made her film debut in the film Surrender Dorothy and received wide exposure with the comedy The 40-Year-Old Virgin.
In 2005, she starred in the Williamstown Theatre Festival’s Bus Stop as Cherie. Also, in 2005, she appeared on Stella and in 2006, she appeared in NBC’s Scrubs. In 2006, she appeared in the film Invincible, alongside Mark Wahlberg. Later that year, she starred in Slither.
In 2007, she starred in the comedy Meet Bill, opposite Aaron Eckhart and Jessica Alba. She also appeared in a minor role in the comedy film Fred Claus, alongside Vince Vaughn and Paul Giamatti. In 2008, she appeared in Definitely, Maybe, opposite Isla Fisher and Ryan Reynolds; starred in the comedy Zack and Miri Make a Porno, with Seth Rogen and played the role of Laura Bush in Oliver Stone’s film W.
In 2009, she appeared in The Uninvited. She has appeared four times in films with fellow actor Paul Rudd – Wet Hot American Summer, The Baxter, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Role Models.
She appeared in nine episodes of the 4th season of the sitcom 30 Rocks and she will star opposite Leslie Mann in What Was I Thinking?
In July 2003, she married producer and sportswriter Max Handelman. They had been together since September 1992.
