Amy Jade Winehouse (born September 14, 1983 – July 23, 2011) is a well known English music artist, mixing diverse musical genres like R&B, jazz, soul or rock and roll. She is said to have greatly influenced the fame of female performers and soul music as well.
She was born in London to a jazz music fan Jewish family. She attended the Earnshaw school, later on continuing at Sylvia Young Theatre School from where it is said to be expelled. Later on she continued her studies at the BRIT School, Southgate School and Ashmole School.
At the age of thirteen she received her first guitar and started writing music a year later. Her debut album, ‘Frank’, appears on October 20, 2003 with jazz influenced songs and being co-written by her. The album entered in the top of the UK album chart in 2004 and achieved platinum sales.
Her second album, ‘Back to Black’ appeared in the UK on 30 October 2006, being the number one on the UK Albums Chart several times, also turning into the best selling album of 2007. Many singles of the album were genuine hits, being on the top of various charts. ‘Frank’ is released also in US on November 20, 2007 getting good reviews. She also worked together with various artists on different singles and winning several awards in categories like Record of the Year, Song of the Year or Best Female Vocal Performance.
