Water for Elephants Synopsis, Movie Trailer, CastJacob Jankowski is a veterinary student at Cornell University when his parents are killed in a car accident. He finds out that his father had great debts and he mortgaged their home in order to provide Jacob an education. Jacob has a breakdown and quits school. In the middle of the night he embarks on a train, which is, as he later learns, a circus train, the home of the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth. As he was a veterinary student, he is hired by the owner of the circus, Uncle Al, to take care of the circus animals.

Jacob has to share quarters with a dwarf, Walter and his dog Queenie. He develops a guarded relationship with the head trainer, August, who is a brutal man and his wife, Marlena. Jacobs falls in love with Marlena, but August beats Jacob and Marlena as he is suspicious of their relationship. As a result, Marlena leaves her husband and moves at a hotel.

There are several great detective characters spanning over 60 years of televisions, so in order to come up with this list, we have included only those that are private investigators and were specially created for television. So, here is the list of the greatest television detectives.

10. Barnaby Jones
Buddy Ebsen was Barnaby Jones in the television series of the same name. Barnaby Jones is a private investigator who has a crime lab of his own in his house and the lab is used to solve several cases. The show ran between 1973 and 1980 for 7 years.

9. Jessica Fletcher
Jessica Fletcher, played by Angela Lansbury, is a mystery novel writer, who is also an amateur detective. The show, Murder, She Wrote ran between 1984 and 1996 on CBS. An additional four television movies were also made throughout the following six years.

8. Joseph R “Joe” Mannix
Joe Mannix is a private detective in Los Angeles, in the television series Mannix, played by Mike Connor. The show was aired between 1967 and 1975 for 8 years. Mannix initially works for a detective agency, but then he works on his own, along with his secretary Peggy Fair. The show was considered a very violent one, with numerous dead people and fist fights and with Mannix injured in basically every episode.
