Chuck Connors (April 10, 1921 – November 10, 1992) was an American actor and writer and also a professional basketball and baseball player. He is mostly known as Lucas McCain in the western series The Rifleman.
He was born in Brooklyn, New York and earned a scholarship to the Adelphi Academy and Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, but he left college after just two years. He signed up to the Army at Fort Knox during the World War II.
After the war, in 1946 he joined the Boston Celtics of the Basketball Association of America, but left basketball for training with Major League Baseball’s Brooklyn Dodgers. In 1951, he joined the Chicago Cubs and played in 66 games. In 1952, he played in the minor leagues for the Los Angeles Angels. He is one of the few athletes to have played for the Major League Baseball and also for the NBA.
He decided to pursue a career in acting and in 1952 he signed for the 1952 film Pat and Mike. A year later, he starred along with Burt Lancaster in the film South Sea Woman. In 1957, he starred in Old Yeller and co-starred in The Hired Gun.

In 1944, at a German concentration camp, the Nazi guards separate young Erik Lensherr from his parents. In his despair, he bends a metal gate until he is knocked unconscious by a guard. Scientist Sebastian Shaw calls Lensherr to him and asks him to move a metal coin on his desk with his powers. As Lensherr fails to do it, Shaw kills him mother right in front on him. To Shaw’s delight, Lensherr kills two guards and destroys two rooms with his magnetic power.
