Liam John Neeson OBE (born on 7 June 1952) is an Irish actor, who has starred in numerous successful films, including Schindler’s List, Michael Collins, Les Misérables, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Kinsey, Excalibur, Darkman, The Dead Pool, Nell, Rob Roy, Gangs of New York, Kingdom of Heaven, Love Actually, Batman Begins, Chloe, Taken, Clash of the Titans, and The A-Team.
He was born in Ballymena, County Antrim, Northern Ireland and first appeared on stage at age eleven. He frequently appeared in school productions with a great interest in acting and for an acting career. In 1971, he signed up as a physics and computer science undergraduate student at Queen’s University Belfast, Belfast, Northern Ireland. He started to play football while at the university and attended a club trial in Dublin.
He returned to Ballymena and worked in different casual jobs, including as a truck driver or fork-lift operator. In 1976, he joined the Lyric Player’s Theatre in Belfast for two years. He first appeared in a film in 1977, as Jesus Christ in Pilgrim’s Progress. A year later, he moved to Dublin and played in several Project Arts Centre productions. In 1980, he was offered a role in the movie, Excalibur. He moved to London, where he appeared on stage, movies and television series. At that time, he lived with actress Helen Mirren. From 1982 to 1987, he appeared in such movies as The Bounty (1984) alongside Mel Gibson and Anthony Hopkins, and in The Mission (1986) with Jeremy Irons and Robert De Niro.
He moved to Hollywood in 1987 to get more prominent roles. In 1877, he starred in Suspect, alongside Cher and Dennis Quaid. His name was brought to public attention with the 1990’s Darkman. In 1993, he appeared on the Broadway play Anna Christie alongside his future wife Natasha Richardson. The following year, they played together again in Nell.
