Sir Roger George Moore (born on 14 October 1927) is an English actor and film producer, famous more likely from the seven James Bond films he appeared from 1973 to 1985 and from the television series the Saint in which he previously appeared.
Moore was born in Stockwell, London and attended the College of the Venerable Bede at the University of Durham but never graduated. Upon turning 18, Moore was recruited for National Service where eventually he became a captain. He served in the Royal Army Service Corps and was later transferred to the entertainment division.
In the early 1950s, Moore worked as a model, appearing in print ads for knitwear and several other products, including toothpaste. His first probable TV appearance was in May 1950, in Drawing Room Detective, a one-off programme. Moore had a contract with MGM in the 1950s, but those films were not successful. In the end, he made his name in television. He appeared in the serial Ivanhoe, in the series The Alaskans and in Maverick – playing the role of Beau Maverick.
Moore became famous after he was cast as Simon Templar in The Saint. The series was a success and in 1967 Moore was a worldwide known star. The Saint ran from 1961 for six seasons and 118 episodes and became the longest running series of this type on British television. After The Saint has ended, Moore made two films: Crossplot and The Man Who Haunted Himself (1971).
Moore returned to television to star with Tony Curtis in another series, The Persuaders!. For this series Moore was paid the then record sum of $1 million for a single series that turned him into the highest paid TV actor in the world. The series was a failure in the US, but a success in Australia and Europe.
