Brad Pitt announced today he’s donating $100,000 to fight California’s Proposition 8, a November ballot initiative that would eliminate same-sex couples’ right to marry.

“Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn’t harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8,” Pitt said.

Angelina Jolie gave birth to a baby girl, Vivienne Marcheline and a baby boy, Knox Lean, at the Fondation Lenval hospital in Nice, France yesterday (July 12).

“The babies are doing well. The operation went just perfectly,” Dr. Michael Sussmann told People Sunday. “Angelina is in very good spirits. Brad Pitt was at her side. He was there and all was well.”

Sussmann confirmed the Nice Matin newspaper report that Jolie gave birth to a boy, Knox Leon, and a girl, Vivienne Marcheline, by Cesarean section on Saturday night. Knox weighed 5.03 lbs, and Vivienne 5 lbs.

“The mother and father are very, very happy,” Sussmann tells People.

The doctor told the Associated Press that the Cesarean was moved forward “for medical reasons” so that the babies could be born “in the best conditions.” He also said Jolie is expected to stay in the hospital for a few days.

“This journal is very special to her and she’s keeping it private, even from Brad. She said that maybe she’ll let him see it one day, but for now it’s just for her. She needs to have an outlet where she can vent — sometimes about Brad!”

“She’s still totally amazed that she’s having twins. She daydreams in her journal about how they’ll look and how they’ll sound and worries about whether they’ll be healthy.”
