Rip Torn’s lawyer says he is having discussion with prosecutors regarding a resolution to charges that his client broke into a bank in Connecticut while intoxicated and with a loaded gun.
Torn was present briefly on Tuesday in Litchfield Superior Court. Attorney A. Thomas Waterfall declares he is confident of solving the case in such manner that the actor, 79, would not spend time in prison.
The actor pleaded not guilty to trespassing, carrying a gun without a permit, carrying a gun while intoxicated, criminal mischief and burglary.
According to the police, Torn broke into the Salisbury bank in January, while intoxicated under the impression it was his home in the Connecticut town.
Waterfall claims Torn underwent alcohol rehabilitation and disposed of all his weapons.
Torn won an Emmy Award for “The Larry Sanders Show” while his screen credits include such films as “Men in Black.”

Randy and Evi Quaid were sent to jail in Santa Barbara, California court on Monday, by Superior Court Judge Frank Ochoa for missing several hearings in their felony case, as they were wanted as fugitives.
Santa Barbara District Attorney Arnie Tolks said, “They came to court this morning hoping that Judge Ochoa would forgive them for not showing up a couple weeks ago, but the judge said they showed disrespect by prior failures to appear and by flashing Randy’s Golden Globe award in court the last time around. They both apologized to the court, but the judge obviously didn’t take it lightly.” The couple presented at the hearing Randy Quaid’s Best Actor trophy he won for the 1988 series LBJ: The Early Years.
The couple posted bail of $100,000 each and left the jail in the afternoon, after spending three hours in custody.
The Quaids were initially arrested in Marfa, Texas, in September 2009, after they allegedly failed to pay an over $10,000 bill at the San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara. In the meantime, they have paid the bill, but according to the prosecutors a crime was however committed.
The couple’s lawyer, Robert Sanger made no comment.
