According to Copperfield’s lawyer and Washington state officials, the woman who accused David Copperfield of sexual assault over two years ago, is now being charged with prostitution and false accusation in a different case.
Copperfield attorney Patty Eakes stated Tuesday, “Local authorities have charged Mr. Copperfield’s accuser with making yet another false claim of rape, this time against a Seattle-area businessman, and with prostitution,” adding that “These developments vindicate Mr. Copperfield and confirm what he has said all along — this woman tried to extort money from him by making a false claim. Thankfully, authorities have now stepped in to stop her.”
An investigation of Copperfield began when a woman filed a police report regarding an incident that supposedly took place in the summer of 2007 in the Bahamas.
The illusionist, 53, performs in Las Vegas and across the world and was named a “living legend” by the Library of Congress.
Forbes magazine estimates Copperfield earned $30 million last year.
