A “mildly depressed” Emma Thompson is to take a year-long hiatus from Hollywood.
On Friday, Thompson received the 2,416th star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame in front of an English-themed pub on the Hollywood Boulevard. The Love Actually British star was surrounded by some of her co-stars and an enthusiastic crowd.
Thompson will not be seen for a while, as she is taking a break from the busy Hollywood in 2011, because she is planning to spend more time with her family.
The Academy Award-winner actress has a daughter and an adopted son with her actor husband Greg Wise and she acknowledges she’s been keen to take a break from Hollywood and the spotlight.
She is also confronted with “mild depression”, being one of the reasons for her vacation.
“I suffer from occasional mild depression, which I think is a very common thing… and it’s a very much hidden thing people don’t talk about. I think it should be discussed,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I find the job I do emotionally very demanding,” she says.
“Next year, I’m going to take a sabbatical. I’m not going to fund raise or perform or travel, except in pursuit of new vistas with my family. I’ve been meaning to do this for a long, long time, but it’s been like putting the brakes on a large ship because there is so much going on.”
