Elizabeth Halsey (Cameron Diaz) is a teacher in Chicago who takes drugs, drinks and curses at her students. When she is dumped by her wealthy fiancé, she plans to win the heart of the wealthy substitute teacher Scott Delacorte (Justin Timberlake). However, another colleague Amy Squirrell (Lucy Punch) also wants to win over Scott and the gym teacher Russell Gettis (Jason Segel) is pursuing Elizabeth.
Halsey wanted to augment her breast to impress Delacorte, but the operation is much too expensive for her. Meanwhile, Delacorte starts to fall in love with Squirrel, seeing Halsey only as a friend. When Halsey learns that there is a bonus for the teacher with the class obtaining the highest state scores, she drastically changes her style of teaching. However, her students are not scoring high on the quizzes. Meanwhile Squirrel and Delacorte are dating, with Halsey and Gettis becoming friends.
Halsey steals the state exam for her students, pretending to be a journalist doing a report on the exam. Later on, she wins the bonus and pays for the consultation to get her breast implants. When she finds out that Delacorte and Squirrell will chaperone a field trip of her class, she puts an apple with poison ivy on it on Squirrel’s desk. Squirrel gets sick from the apple and she is replaced by Halsey on the field trip. During the field trip, Halsey seduces Delacorte and notifies Squirrel about it through a voice message.

In 1961, the Ark spacecraft from the planet Cybertron crashes on the moon. It was piloted by Sentinel Prime and carried special items – the Pillars – which could save the Cybertronians. The crash of the last ship to escape from Cybertron, was detected by NASA and a mission has been authorized to investigate the spacecraft, in the form of a NASA cover mission to send men on the moon.
