The employers of the British scientist, who is the author of a best-selling about being a prostitute, supported her after she revealed herself as “Belle de Jour”.

Dr. Brooke Magnanti, working for the Bristol Initiative for Research of Child Health, revealed her hidden identity at the weekend to The Sunday Times newspaper, as she feared the an ex-boyfriend is ready to disclose the secret.

Magnanti’s weblog of her activities in 2003-2004 were turned into a best-selling book, “The Intimate Adventure of a London Call Girl” that later was adapted into a successful 16-episode television series.

Her employer’s, the University of Bristol, spokesman declared AFP that “She’s a researcher. She’s just a member of staff here and what happened in the past doesn’t really bear relevance to what she’s doing now.”

Magnanti went to London seeking a job while writing the thesis for her doctorate, but her economies were quickly vanishing.  She signed up with an agency and started having sex for $500.

So what do you get when you take my childhood toy (the Barbie) and mix it with Miley Cyrus? Just joking…But, what do you get when you take my childhood toy and mix it with some S&M? You got it…S&M Barbie. Every girl’s favorite doll has suddenly become every parent’s nightmare when it comes to their kids learning about sex. “Mommy, why is she wearing leather and fishnets? Can I wear that?” Boy, that’s a catastrophe waiting to happen.

So, what does all of this mean for those of us who remember Barbie when all she cared about was getting a date with Ken? Means nothing. What does it mean if you hated Barbie in the first place? That you have ammunition against her. The religious group, Christian Voice, said, “Barbie has always been on the tarty side and this is taking it too far. A children’s doll in sexually suggestive clothing is irresponsible – it’s filth.”

I don’t think I’d agree with them about her always having been on the tarty side. I mean yes, she always wore short skirts and stuff, but how many girls do we know that wear short skirts. Does that mean that ANY girl that wears a mini-skirt is a prostitute? That’s insulting. Just because you don’t look good in a mini doesn’t mean you should bash the others who do.

So, what do you think? Think that Barbie has gone just a little bit too far or do you think that this is just another cool thing? I mean…People evolve. Girls are wearing ‘tarty’ clothes now-a-days, so what does it matter if this is a bit S&M? Is Mattel just pushing it a bit too far or is this alright?
